Jim Rohn Biography
Born Emanuel James Rohn in Yakima, Washington, in the United States of America on the 17th of September, 1930 to father Emanuel and mother Clara. Jim Rohn was an only child and grew up on a small farm in Caldwell, Idaho, U.S.A. He developed a strong work ethic on the farm and kept this trait for the rest of his working life.
Rohn abandoned college after just one year to start working at a Sears department store as a human resources manager. He soon left this job to join a nutritional supplement company called AbundaVita. As a distributor for the company he had to learn how to deal with people and sell products.
It was through AbundaVita that Jim Rohn met his mentor John Earl Shoaff in 1955. He first saw Shoaff when he was doing a lecture talking about success and self improvement. Shoaff was speaking about the J. B. Jones book called “The Success Quadrant” and was recruiting distributors for the AbundaVita company.
When Shoaff started the Nutri-Bio company with Rich Schnackenberg and Harry Ebbert in 1957 Rohn left AbundaVita to join him. It was here that the two worked together more closely. Rohn often spoke of his mentor in his lectures throughout his speaking career.
Jim Rohn made his first fortune over the next six years while working at the Nutri-Bio company. When the company went out of business in the early sixties Rohn started giving speeches.
In 1963 Jim gave his first motivational speech in California called “Idaho Farm Boy Makes It to Beverly Hills”. This was the start of his career as lecturer and teacher in the self improvement industry.
Rohn went on to present more than 6,000 seminars and spoke to more than five million people worldwide. He mentored Herbalife founder Mark R. Hughes and motivational speaker Tony Robbins and influenced countless others.
Jim Rohn died on the 5th of December, 2009 at the age of 79. The cause of death was pulmonary fibrosis.
