Michelle
Obama
is the Vice President for Community and
External Affairs at the University of
Chicago Hospitals. She is best known for
her role as wife to U.S.
president Barack Obama, but is also
a lawyer, community outreach worker, and
Chicago city administrator.
Michelle
Obama was born on January 17, 1964 as
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson in Chicago
Illinois. She grew up in Chicago's South
Shore and preformed well academically
throughout her childhood. As a young woman
she attended Whitney Young High School
and graduated in 1981. Obama went on to
study at Princeton University where she
majored in sociology and graduated with
honors in 1985. She went on to study law
at Harvard Law School and received her
Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1988.
After
graduating, Michelle Obama returned to
Chicago and joined the Sidley Austin law
firm as an associate. It was there that
she met her future husband, Barack Obama
to whom she was assigned as a mentor while
he spent time there as a summer associate.
Michelle Obama's focus at the time was
on intellectual and property law which
eventually landed her in the public sector
as an Assistant to the mayor and Assistant
Commissioner of Planning and Development.
She married Barack in 1992, one year before
becoming Executive Director for the Chicago
Office of Public Allies. This non-profit
organization was built to encourage young
people to work on improving social development
through working with non-profit and government
agencies.
In
1996 Michelle Obama became the Associate
Dean of Student Services at the University
of Chicago and helped develop the Community
Service Center at the University. After
the birth of her two children in 1999
and 2001, Obama began working for the
University of Chicago Hospitals as an
executive director for community affairs
and later as Vice President for Community
and External Affairs.
Michelle
and Barack Obama have two children. Barack
Obama became the first African American
President of the USA after defeating Republican
John McCain in November 2008.

On the 4th of Novemeber 2008 Barack Obama
won the presidential election, defeating
senator John
McCain to become
the first African American president of
the United States of America.
