Oprah Winfrey Show began as
a Chicago based 1984 program called "AM
Chicago". It was an early morning
talk show at WLS-TV's. It went on to become
the number one ranked talk show shortly
after Oprah Winfrey started and it was renamed
"The Oprah Winfrey Show", with
1986 being the debut year for the newly
named program.
The Oprah Winfrey Show went on to become
the most successful and highest ranked television
talk show program in history. The program
is viewed by more than 20 million Americans
(USA) every week and broadcast Internationally
to more than one hundred and twenty countries
worldwide. Winfrey's production company
"Harpo Productions, Inc" produces
the program and she is the host.
The daytime talk show focuses on issues
close to Winfrey's heart and she has continued
to cover topics of value to her mostly female
audience for more than twenty successful
seasons of broadcasting. She also features
some of the most well known people in entertainment,
politics, literature, and the self development
industry. Celebrities that have appeared
on the program include Tom Cruise, George
W. Bush, Bill
Gates, Hilary Clinton and many more.

Phil McGraw of the now popular Dr. Phil
show became popular by appearing on the
Oprah Winfrey Show as an expert on relationships
and human psychology.
The power of the program has launched the
careers of people like Dr. Phil, and has
influenced the reading habits of millions
of viewers worldwide. The wildly influential
"Oprah's Book Club" was
started in 1996 as a way for Winfrey to
endorse what she considers to be books of
value. Books that receive the Oprah endorsement
often find themselves at the top of best
selling lists.
From the success of her program, Oprah Winfrey
has been enabled to help causes that she
supports. Oprah's Angel Network is
one way that she has been giving back to
society. The organization gives to charities,
grants, disaster relief, and causes that
eliminate poverty.
In 2006 Winfrey showed the photo of the
33 year old William C. Davis and announced
that she would give a reward of $100,000
for information leading to his capture.
He was caught and sentenced to 52 years
prison on sexual abuse charges.
