Sam
Walton was a pioneering
retailer that made the discount shopping
store a great success in America. He cut
costs to the absolute maximum and passed
the savings onto the customer. This meant
that he had to increase sales through opening
new stores across the United States to increase
his profits. Walton opened his first Wal-Mart
store in 1962 and spread across the country,
opening new stores wherever possible to
become the world's largest retailer in 1991.
Although Walton died in 1992 his children
have continued his legacy and have also
opened Wal-Mart stores in China.
