T.
Boone Pickens
introduced the Pickens Plan in
July of 2008, a proposal to reinvent US
energy resources by promoting oil-alternatives
such as natural gas, wind power, and solar
energy. A major part of his plan is to
replace current natural gas demands with
wind power, freeing up the gas for use
in other areas like automotive fuels.
The Pickens Plan promotes the idea of
using the central areas of the US that
run from Texas up to Wisconsin and Minnesota
as the primary field for collecting wind
energy. This area, also known as the Great
Plains (and sometimes Tornado Alley),
has some of the highest potential for
wind energy in the world. According to
Pickens, the plan would not only promote
jobs, but also create a central location
for energy resources in the US due to
it's equidistant location between the
two coasts.
Picken Plan Pledge
From the website of the Pickens Plan,
here is a sample of the pledge that T.
Boone Pickens is encouraging Americans
to sign and join his "army"
of supporters.

T. Boone Pickens Energy Independence
Pledge
We will no longer stand by and watch as
Americas national security and economy
become more
dependent on the unstable foreign nations
that we rely on for nearly 70% of the
oil we use each day.
We spend nearly $700 billion every year
buying foreign oil, which represents the
greatest transfer of
wealth in the history of mankind.
The new President and the 111th Congress
need to enact an energy plan that reduces
our foreign oil
dependence by at least 30% within ten
years.
This plan must include proven American
technology and resources; the development
of new energy
sources; and the expansion and modernization
of the national electrical grid to transport
renewable
energy to homes and businesses.
Delaying any further means tacit support
for continuing Americas addiction
to foreign oil.
I join with T. Boone Pickens and his army
of supporters in calling for an Energy
Independence Plan to be enacted within
the first 100 days of the new administration.

Weve
got all these politicians talking about
better health care and what all, but believe
me, were not going to have the money
to take care of sick people.. or anyone
else as far as Im concerned.. if
we dont fix our energy problem right
now. Ive got an idea what to do.
It might not be a perfect idea, but hell,
none of my best ideas have been perfect.

Given the current state of our finances,
we could sure use a quarter of a trillion
dollars a year recycling through the U.S.
economy rather than through the economies
of Iran, Russia, and Venezuela.

We are now spending half a trillion dollars
on foreign oil, importing 62 percent of
the oil we use, and we havent had
the leadership in D.C. to do anything
about it. We've got to move to other sources
of energy. But weve gotten way behind,
and will continue to pay the fiddler.
Its not a good future.
