The challenges of change are always hard.
It is important that we begin to unpack
those challenges that confront this nation
and realize that we each have a role that
requires us to change and become more
responsible for shaping our own future.

My view is that, you know, life unfolds
at its own rhythm. You know, I have never
lived a life that I thought I could plan
out. And I'm just trying to do the best
I can every day. I find I have a lot to
get done between the time I get up and
the time I go to bed.

I'm sick and tired of people who say that
if you debate and disagree with this administration,
somehow you're not patriotic. We need
to stand up and say we're Americans, and
we have the right to debate and disagree
with any administration.

No government can love a child, and no
policy can substitute for a family's care.
But at the same time, government can either
support or undermine families as they
cope with moral, social and economic stresses
of caring for children.

The challenge is to practice politics
as the art of making what appears to be
impossible, possible.

I never thought I would end up being the
Senator from New York. I never thought
that the long haired, bearded guy I married
in law school would end up being President.

I don't believe that people vote for President
based on spouses. I don't even think they
vote much based on vice presidents or
any other factor. I think they choose
between the two people who are running.

There cannot be true democracy unless
women's voices are heard. There cannot
be true democracy unless women are given
the opportunity to take responsibility
for their own lives.

You know, people make a lot of money talking
about me, don't they? They just get on
those shows, and they talk away. There's
nothing I can do. And that's one of the
great lessons I try to convey in my book,
which my mother implanted in me as a young
girl.. Is you can either be an actor in
your own life, or a reactor in somebody
else's.

I suppose I could have stayed home and
baked cookies and had teas, but what I
decided to do was to fulfill my profession
which I entered before my husband was
in public life.
