farming has been shown to provide major benefits for wildlife and the wider environment.
The best that can be said about genetically engineered crops is that they will
now be monitored to see how much damage they cause. Prince

Climate change should be seen as the greatest challenge to face man and treated
as a much bigger priority in the United Kingdom. Prince

Business is recognizing the role it can play in combatting climate change.
Thank God, is all I can say, for there is a desperately urgent need for business
to play that role. Your lobbying influence can be substantial, but together, united
and in large enough numbers it could prove decisive in turning the tide. Prince

It
is vitally important that we can continue to say, with absolute conviction, that
organic farming delivers the highest quality, best-tasting food, produced without
artificial chemicals or genetic modification, and with respect for animal welfare
and the environment, while helping to maintain the landscape and rural communities. Prince

While the demand for organic food outstrips supply, we happen to know
that 77 percent of consumers don't want genetically engineered crops grown in
this country. Consumers can choose whether or not to buy organic produce. Genetically
modified ingredients will deny us choice in the long run. Prince

The
demand for organic food is growing at a remarkable rate. Consumers have made it
clear that they want organic produce and every sector of the food chain is responding,
with the kind of results we have just seen. Prince

It is now 14 years since I first suggested that organic farming might
have some benefits and ought to be taken seriously. I shall never forget the vehemence
of the reaction.. much of it coming from the sort of people who regard agriculture
as an industrial process, with production as the sole yardstick of success. Prince

The
worlds forests need to be seen for what they are.. giant global utilities,
providing essential services to humanity on a vast scale. Rainforests store carbon,
which is lost to the atmosphere when they burn, increasing global warming. The
life they support cleans the atmosphere of pollutants and feeds it with moisture.
They help regulate our climate and sustain the lives of some of the poorest people
on this Earth. Prince

Fast food may appear to be cheap food and, in the literal sense it often is, but
that is because huge social and environmental costs are being excluded from the
calculations. Any analysis of the real cost would have to look at such things
as the rise in food-borne illnesses, the advent of new pathogens, such as E.coli
0157, antibiotic resistance from the overuse of drugs in animal feed, extensive
water pollution from intensive agricultural systems and many other factors. These
costs are not reflected in the price of fast food. Prince

Personally, I have been very impressed by the slow food movement. It is about
celebrating the culture of food, of sharing the extraordinary knowledge, developed
over millennia, of the traditions involved with quality food production, of the
sheer joy and pleasure of consuming food together. Especially within the context
of family life, this has to be one of the highest forms of cultural activity.

I
think we're going to find, with climate change and everything else.. things like

that things are going to become very complicated. Prince
