"Awaken the Giant Within" - How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny! was written by Anthony Robbins back in 1992. It is 544 pages of the man's motivational techniques and self help tips. Awaken the Giant Within covers a wide range of topics, from goal setting, to Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), personal finance, and relationships.

The book comes across as fast paced and entertaining, just like he is on his many infomercials. It covers a lot of material, with much of it requiring you to make positive changes and work on yourself. So it is probably best skimmed, before going back to chapters that relate most to your life.

Robbins uses a lot of techniques that are either influenced by or are taken from the pseudoscientific principles of Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). But Awaken the Giant Within is more than a book derived from NLP, it is a manual for life. If one technique or chapter does not work for you, there are plenty more in the book that can.

Anthony Robbins has copped plenty of criticisms for his infomercials, his personal life, and his high priced seminars, but Awaken the Giant Within is a self help classic.

  It's close to 20 years since I last sat on the couch in the living room at "the castle" in San Diego, California, breaking bread and sharing ideas with Tony Robbins. As he National Co-Coordinator of Logistics I had many meals with Tony and his core staff members.
  So one might think a book review from a former Tony staffer might be bias. But if you ever attended a Tony seminar, if you read any of his other books, listened to his seminars on tape, then you know this fact: You are biased already. We all are.
  Each and all of us carry "filters" that cause us to evaluate anything and everything within those filters. So I am no more or less biased than anyone else. What I can tell you is that no matter how good the book, nothing compares to Tony live. Nothing.
  I recently re-read this book and for me it re-awakened the Giant in me. As I read along, I hear Tony's voice, see his familiar gestures, and re-live years of traveling and playing with him. I felt this was a great advantage so I tried a little experiment. I lent the book to a friend AFTER I had her listen to a single Tony tape. This way she would have his voice ~ tone, pitch, tempo ~ as a reference.
  And this is why I chose to review the book ~ to tell you it's a good book. The information is clear, straightforward, designed to get you to your own personal best time and time again.
  And if you can read it with Tony's own voice inside your head, it isn't Tony live, but it's the next best thing.

  It's easy for someone stuck on the couch to criticize Tony Robbins, but much harder to get up and do a better job of changing the way people think. Awaken the Giant Within was one of the first "self help" books that I ever picked up, and remains one of the best.
  The reason he hasn't released a new book each is year is because he said most of what he had to say in this book! It's a summary of every area of life.
  I would of gave it five stars, but I don't like television infomercials!!
