of June 27, 2008, Bill Gates was no longer
the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft,
a company he founded and help build for
the last few decades. At the age of 52,
Gates decided to step down from the daily
operations of the software giant and, instead,
focus his time and energy on his other love:
philanthropy.

Buffett has put himself up for auction again
this year. Bidding has now finished on the
online auction website eBay for lunch with
Warren Buffett at the Smith and Wollensky
steakhouse restaurant in New York. The winning
bidder and seven friends will get to dine
with the Berkshire Hathaway CEO. The winning
bid for lunch with Warren Buffett in 2008
was an impressive $2.1 million paid by Zhao
Danyang of the Pureheart China Growth Investment
Fund.

Buffett has made history by becoming the
most generous philanthropist of all time.
The famous investor and CEO of Berkshire
Hathaway has announced in June 2006 that
he will be giving away much of his $44 billion.
Buffett has decided to give the bulk of
generous gift to the foundation of his Bridge
partner and friend of 15 years, Bill Gates.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will
receive an extra $1.5 billion annually from
Buffett, doubling the total budget of the
foundation.

for 2005, or more accurately, the people
of the year for 2005. This year it is the
"good Samaritan" that have stole
the spotlight, with Bono the Irish pop singer
of the U2 group, Bill Gates of Microsoft,
and his wife Melinda Gates being chosen
for their charitable works.
