A Mexican reporter has now put Carlos Slim
in the number one position as the richest

Forbes billionaires list continues to grow
in number, with a record 946 billionaires
counted around the world in 2007. The top
five positions are pretty much the same
as last year, but there have been an impressive
178 newcomers to the list. The combined
value of the entire billionaires list rose
by $900 billion to $3.5 trillion with an
average of $3.6 billion each.

world, there has also been a surge in billionaires
this year. While the markets in the United
States have been trying to figure out which
direction to head during the past 12 months,
the Indian SENSEX has increased by 54%,
and the Russian RTS market has increased
an impressive 108%. The gains in these two
countries alone swelled the world billionaires
list by 17 new entrants.

Gates is still the world's richest man for
the eleventh consecutive year with an estimated
$US46.5 billion. The gap for position is
quickly closing though, with investor Warren
Buffett coming a close second at $US42 billion.
According to the Forbes magazine there are
now 691 billionaire in the world, which
is 96 more than last year when there where
just 587 billionaires.
