Forbes Richest People - Fifteen Richest Fictional
People in 2007 |
Both
Carlos
Slim and Scrooge McDuck have had extremely
profitable years in 2007. The former because
of the surging share price of his massive
share holdings and the latter because of
the surging price of gold. The wealthy duck
has hoarded all of his ever growing pile
of gold coins and bullion and now has an
estimated net worth of $28.8 billion. His
strategy of buying and hoarding has paid
off, with an almost threefold increase in
wealth over the past year, and the title
of the richest fictional character from
the Forbes business magazine. If Scrooge
was real he would be ranked the 6th
richest billionaire in the world, behind
the billionaire steel
magnate Lakshmi Mittal.
The richest fictional character last year
fell from grace after losing his life in
Iraq. The defense contractor Oliver ''Daddy''
Warbucks was killed by an improvised explosive
device in the war-torn country, leaving
his $36.2 billion fortune tied up in the
courts, with his daughter Lil' Orphan Annie
and a bunch of wives and hangers on fighting
for control.
Another notable victim to fall off the exclusive
list of wealthy fictional characters was
Mr. Monopoly. He was caught up in the real
world crisis of the US
subprime mortgage meltdown.
With the release of the Simpson's Movie,
you would think the extra exposure would
have increased the fortune of Springfield's
richest mogul, but Monty
Burns has been hit hard by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. A dirty
nuclear reactor is no longer acceptable
in a world that is choking from pollution.
Even the most feared real
world billionaires have turned green.
The 104 year old ogre (Monty Burns, not
Rupert Murdoch) lost half of his fortune
during the past 12 months and is now in
6th position with an $8.4 billion dollar
fortune.
"One dollar for eternal happiness?
I'd be happier with the dollar"
Monty
Burns Quote
Santa Claus remains off the list, even though
he topped the fictional rich list a couple
years ago with an infinite amount of money.
It was argued that the jolly fat man is
actually real and Forbes has stood by their
findings. If beer and cookies go missing
on Christmas night and millions of presents
are delivered to houses around the world
every year, Santa must be real!
Ranking fictional characters by their wealth
is not an easy task though, just as it is
challenging to rank the real billionaires
of the world. Here's how Forbes does it..
"Net worth estimates are based,
when possible, on known commodity and share
price movements. All prices as of market
close, Dec. 10, 2007. In the case of privately
held fictional concerns, we sought to identify
comparable fictional public companies. Final
net worths were calculated using a tiny
grain of common sense and a large dose of
salt."
