Forbes Richest People - Fifteen Richest Fictional
People in 2006 |
One
of the things that Forbes magazine does
more successfully than most magazines is
rank the richest people in the world according
to their assets. They rank billionaire business
leaders from around the world, the richest
Americans, the most powerful women, the
best companies, and more interestingly,
the fifteen richest fictional characters
in the world!
The unusual bunch of wealthy characters
include everything from an Italian plumber
that jumps around a lot (Mario), through
to a duck that doesn't like spending his
gold coins (Scrooge McDuck).
At the top of the rich fictional list is
the Lieutenant General Oliver "Daddy"
Warbucks from the Little Orphan Annie comic
strip. The 52 year old defense contractor
is reported to have an estimated $36.2 billion
according to the Forbes magazine. They say
that world conflicts like the war in Iraq
and winning a lucrative "oil well maintenance"
contract have increased the wealth of Daddy
Warbucks.
He takes the place of Santa Claus who had
previously dominated the number one position
with an infinite amount of dollars. The
children and toy retailers of the world
have insisted that Santa Clause is real
and should not be on a list of fictional
characters, so Forbes has been forced to
take the jolly fat man off the list. Kris
Kringle still has an infinite amount of
money, but evidence of him being real has
been brought forth, with beer and cookies
going missing on Christmas night and millions
of presents being delivered to houses around
the world each year.
Another wealthy fictional character to fall
from grace was Lex Luthor, the nemesis of
Superman. Luthor's recent attempt to take
over the world has cost him billions of
dollars, forcing him off the top 15 rich
list.
Star of the Simpsons cartoon, Monty Burns
(C. Montgomery Burns) saw his wealth double
in twelve months with his dealings with
the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il. The
evil old nuclear plant operator from Springfield
claimed second position on the list with
an estimated $16 billion.
"What good is money if it can't
inspire terror in your fellow man?"
Monty
Burns
Ranking fictional characters by their wealth
is not an easy task though, just as it is
challenging to rank the real billionaires
of the world. Here's how Forbes does it..
"Net worth estimates are based,
when possible, on known commodity and share
price movements. All prices as of market
close, Nov. 17, 2006. In the case of privately
held fictional concerns, we sought to identify
comparable fictional public companies. Final
net worths were calculated using a tiny
grain of common sense and a large dose of
salt."
